Marine Bureau officers responded to the Babylon beach at approximately 2:20 p.m. after a good Samaritan spotted and pulled an unresponsive man from the water, police said.
The man, identified as Jack Shapiro, 54, of Holbrook, was brought to shore, where CPR was initiated. He was then transported by ambulance to Good Samaritan University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

The cause of death will be determined by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office, according to police.
