The early-morning wreck happened on the Southern State Parkway, near exit 42 in Islip, at around 2:20 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22. Ronkonkoma Man ID'd After Apparent Shirley Drowning At Smith Point County Park Outer Beach Police are investigating the death of a man who was pulled unresponsive from water on Long Island. A Suffolk County Park Ranger was patrolling on Outer Beach in Smith Point County Park when he was notified that a man was in distress in the water at noontime Sunday, Aug. 11. The officer and a good Samaritan immediately attempted to reach the man using a life ring, but he was located unresponsive by Suffolk County lifeguards on jet skis.  He was pulled to shore where CPR was initiated. The incident happened around 7:15 p.m. Sunday, July 7, in Deer Park. The child, a 2-year-old boy, was pulled from the pool, and first responders began CPR upon arriving on the scene. The boy was transported by ambulance to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip and later moved to Stony Brook University Hospital in stable condition. Emergency crews in Islandia were called to a home on Sunflower Lane at around 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, after a 2-year-old boy was found unresponsive in a pool. Suffolk County Police said a family member pulled the child out of the water and performed CPR until medics arrived, but the boy was pronounced dead at South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore. Swimmer Drowns At Long Island Beach A 54-year-old man died after being pulled from the water at a Long Island beach. Emergency crews in Southampton were called shortly before 3 p.m. Monday, June 24, for a drowning victim at Altenkirch County Park, located in the hamlet of Hampton Bays near Dune Road and Road H. Another beachgoer removed the man from the water and performed CPR, but he was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Southampton Town Police identified the man as Peter Dzakonski, of Hampton Bays. A second man at the beach was also hospitalized after reporting chest pain and difficulty breathing.
