New Update: Massive Long Island Brush Fire Covers 20 Acres

It took almost 10 hours for responders to contain massive brush fire on Long Island is being battled by 18 responding departments.

The blaze broke out at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, in Riverhead in a wooded area to the east side of 3000 Sound Avenue. It was finally contained at around 10 a.m. Saturday.

A total of 20 acres were affected by the blaze, according to the Town of Riverhead Police.

In addition to the Riverhead FD, 17 other departments are assisting at the scene.

Seven EMS and three law enforcement agencies also responded. One Riverhead firefighter was hospitalized with smoke inhalation.

No evacuations were necessary, Town of Riverhead Police said.

The New York State Fire Ranger's Office is now investgating at the scene.
