Dozens Suffer Burns From Recalled Heated Blankets: What To Know Nearly 200,000 heated blankets and heating pads are being recalled after more than 50 people suffered burns. JKMAX issued the recall for about 195,000 heated blankets and heating pads, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced on Thursday, Sept. 17. The products were imported by Jiande Pengshuai Trading Co., Ltd., of China. The blankets and pads can overheat because of their internal wire heating elements, posing fire and burn hazards. JKMAX has received 577 reports of the products smoking, melting, or burning, including 53 burn injuries, according to the CPSC. Tractor-Trailer Fuel Spill Prompts Cleanup On I-684 A tractor-trailer spilled fuel after hitting debris on Interstate 684 in Westchester County, prompting an environmental response.  The incident happened on I-684 in Bedford on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at around 12:30 p.m., according to New York State Police.  A 2021 Peterbilt tractor-trailer was traveling on the interstate when it struck debris in the roadway, damaging the truck's fuel tank and causing fuel to spill, police said. The Department of Environmental Protection responded to address the spill.  No injuries or citations were reported.

Woman Trying To Help Injured Deer Struck By Car, Airlifted To Hospital In NJ: Police A 24-year-old woman was flown to a New Jersey hospital after she was hit by a car while trying to help an injured deer, authorities said. At 11:43 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15, officers responded to Route 206 and Patricia Drive, where a Lake Hopatcong woman was found lying in the roadway after she was struck by a white Mazda while attempting to aid the injured animal, Mount Olive police said. The woman was airlifted to a hospital, while the driver, a 29-year-old Flanders woman, remained on scene and was not injured, police said. The crash remains under investigation, police said.
