NY State Launches Statewide DWI Crackdown, Extra Patrols For Thanksgiving Travel
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has announced a statewide surge in law enforcement patrols and safety measures to protect travelers during Thanksgiving week, one of the busiest and riskiest times for road travel. The identity has been released of a person killed in an overnight crash on the Long Island Expressway involved an allegedly impaired driver. It happened around 1:15 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, in Islandia Medford resident Alan Mercado, age 67, was driving a 2010 Honda on the westbound side near Exit 57, when he attempted to move from the center to the right lane and was struck from behind by a 2017 Yamaha motorcycle.
