A lucky Hudson Valley Powerball player has $50,000 to spend for Christmas after winning the third-place prize for the Wednesday, Dec. 18 game. New York Lottery officials said the ticket was sold at the Quick Chek store on Route 9W in Newburgh in Orange County. The winning numbers were 06-15-18-33-49 with a Powerball of 7.  The unidentified player had to select four correct numbers and the Powerball to win the third prize.  No word yet on who the winner is. The Powerball drawing is televised every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 11 p.m.

Woman Nabbed Stealing Vehicle From Rockland County Motel After Crash: Police A 36-year-old woman with purple and blue hair was nabbed for allegedly stealing a car from a Hudson Valley motel parking lot. Kayla Jones, of the Bronx, was charged with grand larceny on Tuesday, Dec. 10, after security video showed a purple-haired woman wearing a black sweatshirt and grey pants, get into the car at the Stony Point Budget Inn and drive away on Route 9W, said Lt. According to the New York State Police, the roadway is closed in both directions between Seven Lakes Parkway (Stony Point) and River Road (New Windsor); all lanes of two lanes are closed. Hudson Valley Woman Gets 6 Months In Jail For Double-Fatal Hit-Run Crash A woman has been sentenced to six months in jail for the double-fatal, hit-and-run crash in the region.  Orange County resident Angela Fischl, age 25, of Newburgh, pleaded guilty to two counts of leaving the scene of an incident resulting in death on Tuesday, Oct. 15, Following her plea, she was sentenced to five years probation and six months in the Ulster County Jail. Her driver’s license was also revoked, said Ulster County District Attorney Emmanuel Nneji. The plea and sentence are in connection to the Friday, March 1, hit-and-run resulting in the deaths of Ulster County residents…

Route 9W Stretch In Rockland Will Be Closed At Times For Nearly 2 Weeks: Here's When A busy stretch of Route 9W will be closed at times for nearly two weeks during roadwork. The New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) says the stretch of the roadway will be  shut down in both directions beginning Monday, Sept. 23, through Friday, Oct. 4, to facilitate construction activities, weather permitting. The work will be in Clarkstown between Short Clove Road and Route 304 inightly between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Rockland County Launches Free TOR Ferry Weekend Connection Bus Weekend travelers will now have the opportunity to take a TOR ferry connection bus beginning this weekend to explore different parts of the Hudson Valley and New York City, free of charge. Rockland County Executive Ed Day and the Department of Public Transportation said that the service will begin on Saturday, July 6, and run through Nov. 10.
