Fitbit will pay more than $12 million for failing to promptly report that its Ionic smartwatches posed serious burn risks, officials said. Fitbit LLC, which is now owned by Google, has been fined $12.25 million to settle claims by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the federal agency said in a news release on Thursday, Jan. 23. Townhome Fire Injures Two, Destroys Bedroom In Hudson Valley
A fire destroyed a second-story bedroom in a townhome in the Hudson Valley, causing injuries to the residents, including burns and respiratory problems. The incident occurred in Poughkeepsie around 6:10 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 12, at 13 Tall Tree Lane. Arlington Fire District Deputy Chief Adam Kangas said firefighters arrived at the townhome in under six minutes and found a bedroom on fire. Millions of steam cleaners that may be too hot to handle and were sold nationwide are being recalled after more than 150 burn injuries were reported. An alert was issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) advising that BISSELL Steam Shot Handheld Steam Cleaners are being recalled, which can leak hot water or steam onto users, posing a possible burn hazard.
