Investigators determined that Melissa Koprowski, age 31, of Yaphank, was driving a 2014 Dodge Durango eastbound when she attempted to turn left onto Wading River Hollow Road. Koprowski’s vehicle struck a westbound 2022 Nissan Rogue, police said.

Esther Guy, age 75, of Coram, was a passenger in the Nissan. She was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue, where she was pronounced dead.

Guy’s daughter, a 33-year-old Coram resident, who was driving the Nissan, was also taken to the same hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Guy's granddaughter, a 22-month-old, who was seated behind the driver, was not injured.

Koprowski was treated at the same hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and charged with driving while intoxicated. She is expected to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the crash to call Major Case at 631-852-6555.
