Phone Scammer Swindles $32K From Long Island Woman, Police Say An alleged phone scammer convinced a Long Island woman to fork over tens of thousands of dollars, police said. Nassau County Police said the 65-year-old Roslyn Heights woman contacted the agency on Wednesday, Oct. 16, saying she had been the victim of a scam. She told investigators that she received a call from “Amazon” regarding her iPad and was directed to speak with a purported agent at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to report fraud.
