Fatal Wrong-Way Crash: 21-Year-Old Long Island Resident ID'd As Victim
One person was killed in a wrong-way crash on Long Island. It happened around 3:40 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, in Oyster Bay Cove. A 2022 Honda motorcycle was traveling southbound on Berry Hill Road in the vicinity of Northern Boulevard, according to Nassau County Police. The motorcycle entered the northbound lanes while still traveling southbound and collided with a 2023 Kia Forte being operated by a 62-year-old man. A phone call claiming to protect a Long Island resident's savings ended in a $20,000 scam, according to authorities. The victim, a 69-year-old New Hyde Park woman, received the call from an unknown man who falsely identified himself as a Walmart employee, according to Nassau County Police. The man advised the victim that there was fraudulent activity on her account and that the victim’s Social Security number was compromised. A 26-year-old man is accused of targeting a Long Island resident through an elaborate computer scam. Nassau County Police said an 82-year-old East Meadow man contacted detectives at around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, saying he had received a message on his computer from someone claiming to be an employee for Microsoft. The identity has been released of a woman killed in a crash at an intersection in a residential Long Island neighborhood. It happened around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, in Great Neck Plaza. A woman was struck by a 2004 Dodge Ram pickup truck traveling westbound on Grace Avenue at the intersection of Park Place, according to Nassau County Police. A man hoping to sell a bracelet to a Long Island jewelry store was instead beaten and robbed. Nassau County Police said the 31-year-old victim called what he thought was Five Towns Jewelry Buyers, located in Cedarhurst on Willow Avenue, at around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11. Security was heightened at a Long Island elementary school after authorities discovered a threatening social media post. Police are trying to identify a man who urinated on the front porch of a Long Island home and shouted antisemitic obscenities. The incident happened in Plainview, at a residence on Grohmans Lane, at around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 8. Burglar Sought After Stealing Cash From Oyster Bay Business
Police are investigating after a burglar made off with over $1,000 from a Long Island business. The break-in happened in Oyster Bay at the Lee’s Laundromat on South Street sometime overnight Monday, Sept. 9. Nassau County Police said someone pried open a rear door before stealing approximately $1,500 in cash. They then fled in an unknown direction. No description of the suspect was given. Human Remains Found At Harbor On Long Island
An investigation is underway after the remains of a dead man were found on Long Island. Nassau County Police detectives say officers responded to reports of human remains found at Hempstead Harbor in Roslyn just before 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10. A high school on Long Island had to be cleared for the second straight day after a new bomb threat.The latest incident happened around 6:40 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, at Kellenberg Memorial High School in Uniondale. A Long Island man is facing criminal charges after an 11-year-old boy was seen carrying a shotgun outside his home, police said. The incident happened in Bayville, at a residence on 7th Street, at around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3.
