Avoid Unnecessary Travel As State Expects Heavy Snow, Hochul Says
Gov. Kathy Hochul has urged New Yorkers to avoid unnecessary travel as two weather systems are expected to bring heavy snow and strong winds. Hochul said that New York City, Long Island and the Hudson Valley regions are expected to see up to six inches or more of snow, and wind gusts could reach up to 40 mph, overnight Thursday, Jan. 6, through the morning of Friday, Jan. 7. NY Utility Companies Agree To Pay $86M In Settlements For Failed Isaias Response
The failed response by utility companies in New York during Tropical Storm Isaias is going to prove costly. Terms of settlements totaling $86.2 million have been agreed upon with the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) for alleged violations committed as the storm swept across the state. NY Reaches Record Settlement With Broadband/Cable Provider Altice Over Tropical Storm Response
New York State has reached a record-setting settlement with broadband and cable provider Altice for the company’s muted response to Tropical Storm Isaias, which left some without service for upwards of two weeks. Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced on Thursday, March 18 that the state has reached the near $72 million settlement for Altice’s failure to adequately prepare for and restore broadband and cable television service after the storm struck in August last year, leaving 400,000 customers without service. Customers Can Expect Rate Increase Soon
Utility bills may become a bit more of a burden as NYSEG prepares for rate hikes. The New York State Electric & Gas Corp. and Rochester Gas & Electric Corp. reached a tentative settlement with New York regulators on a rate increase that will begin as soon as the spring, though few details were released. The deal came after nearly a year of negotiations. It will reportedly take effect in May.
