Man Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries After Car Crashes Into Tree In Area
An area man was seriously injured during a single-car Hudson Valley crash on Route 44.
The crash took. place in Dutchess County in the town of North East around 6:30 p.m., Monday, May 23.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 1964 Oldsmobile sedan driven by Columbia County resident Edward M. Ferrato, age 69, of Ancram, was traveling westbound on Route 44 near the state line when he lost control, after which the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree, said Capt. John Watterson, of the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office.

Teen Pedestrian Suffers Serious Head Injuries After Being Hit By Minivan In Pleasant Valley
A 13-year-old teen received serious head injuries after being hit by a minivan on Route 44 in Pleasant Valley.
The incident took place around 5:10 p.m., Wednesday, March 20, on Route 44, near Clark Heights, said Capt. John Watterson with the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office.
An investigation into the crash found that a 2007 Chrysler Town & Country driven by William Plaza, 35, of Wappingers Falls, and occupied by Kataura Ross, 25, of Poughkeepsie, was traveling westbound on Route 44 when it struck the 13-year-old from Pleasant Valley, Watterson said.
