Family Dogs Rescued After House Fire Breaks Out In Area
A local family had a happy reunion with man’s best friend after a house fire broke out in the area. First responders were dispatched to an Ellen Avenue home in Mahopac after the blaze broke out shortly before 9 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17, Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department Public Information Officer Jack Casey said. A 52-year-old Bergen County driver lost a leg but survived a fiery crash Sunday night thanks to two good Samaritans and the Palisades Interstate Parkway police. Boater Stranded Overnight Rescued By Sheriff's Marine Unit
A man who was adrift in the Hudson River after his boat engine died was rescued by members of the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit. The rescue took place around 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 18, when deputies located a boater who was stranded overnight on the Hudson River, said Dutchess County Sheriff's Office Lt. Shawn Castano. A 44-year-old man who was stranded on his capsized sailboat in the Hudson River during an intense thunderstorm was rescued by two Good Samaritans. The Westchester County Police Marine Unit rescued two people in the Hudson River after their kayak overturned off Irvington. A 22-year-old Westchester man was rescued after falling more than 20 feet off a cliff while hiking at Nyack Beach State Park. The incident took place around 2:30 p.m. Sunday when the Tarrytown man went off a trail, fell and was knocked unconscious, said Randy Simon, spokesman for the state Parks Services. A woman who thought she was hitting the brake on her vehicle, but instead hit the gas, ended up at the bottom of a clubhouse pool, police said. Six residents were rescued without injuries by firefighters in Orange County after their home was overrun with ice chunks and water, according to state Department of Transportation on Twitter. Shortly after the flooding began around 2 p.m. Friday, the DOT, along with the New York State Police closed Route 209 in Westbrookville due to the ice jam and flooding.
