Free Pool Access For Summer: Hochul Launches 'Get Offline, Get Outside' Campaign At NY Parks
As part of an initiative to promote physical and mental health among young New Yorkers, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that pool entry fees will be waived at state parks this summer. “Summer is here – get offline and get outside.” On Tuesday, July 2, Hochul announced that for the rest of the summer, there will be no entry fees at New York State Parks pools. Doggie Paddle: NY Army Veteran Kayaking, Biking 4K Miles Fundraising For Service Dogs
An Army veteran from New York is going the distance - 4,000 miles to be exact - to help his fellow veterans in need of service dogs. Saratoga County native Jimmy Thomas, age 61, of Ballston Spa, is currently kayaking from the town of Glenville all the way to Key West, Florida. He then plans to bicycle back to upstate New York. 19: State-Run Campgrounds, Cabins, Cottages Closed
The spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has now hit some of New York’s most-popular recreation hubs. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation announced over the weekend that all state-operated campgrounds, cabins, and cottages will be closed to overnight visitation through at least Thursday, April 30. Come April 30, officials will reassess the situation and determine if the closures should be extended further, pending the spread of the virus.
