A Rockland County man is being held in the Bergen County jail after police said he held his former employer and coworkers hostage, demanding money and threatening them with his dog. Police were called to a business suite on Broad Street in Norwood around 1:50 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, where Wayne Gordon, of New City, NY had come in with his pit bull, removed the dog's muzzle, and threatened to have the dog attack them if they didn't pay him $7,000 that he claimed he was owed, Norwood Police Chief Christopher Federici said. A man has admitted to torturing and killing his former girlfriend’s two pets inside her Hudson Valley home. Matthew Savinovich pleaded guilty in a Putnam County Court Tuesday, April 26, to two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, one count of torturing animals, and one count of attempted burglary. A 27-year-old man is facing charges for allegedly killing his ex-girlfriend's pets over the course of a year, authorities announced. Matthew Savinovich, of the borough of Norwood in Bergen County, New Jersey, was arrested on Wednesday, Oct. 6 by officers from the Putnam County SPCA for allegedly killing three chihuahuas and a ferret that belonged to his ex in Lake Peekskill. Driver Dead, SUV Found In Hackensack River In River Vale
A popular Hillsdale firefighter was found dead in his SUV Thursday in the upper Hackensack River in River Vale, the apparent victim of a heart attack. John Inserra, 48, was married with three young children -- two boys and a girl. He coached and was extremely active in local youth sports, including softball and wrestling. Police had to track down a suspect who allegedly slammed his car repeatedly into another man’s vehicle after being involved in an altercation at a Palisades restaurant.
