Lawmakers in a New York county approved a controversial bill criminalizing mask wearing amid a summer bump in COVID-19 cases. On Long Island, the Republican-controlled Nassau County Legislature passed the “Mask Transparency Act” by a vote of 12-0 on Monday night, Aug. 5. All seven Democrats abstained from voting. Day Challenges Judge's Restraining Order On Measles State Of Emergency
Rockland County Executive Ed Day is challenging a restraining order issued by a state Supreme Court judge against Rockland's measles state of emergency. “I absolutely do not agree with the judge’s opinion that this measles crisis does not rise to the level of an emergency, when, in fact, we are facing the longest lasting current outbreak in the nation, and the largest outbreak in New York State in 30 years,” said Day. New York has joined 15 other states in a lawsuit challenging President Donald Trump’s so-called “contrived” declaration of a National Emergency at the southern border.
