Scenic Park, Pier On Hudson River To Celebrate Reopening A rebuilt pier along the Hudson River is about to open up tourism and economic opportunities for a city in Northern Westchester, officials announced. A grand reopening ceremony celebrating the rebuilding and renovation of Fleischmann Pier and Charles Point Park in Peekskill will be held on Sunday, Oct. 13 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on John Walsh Boulevard, officials announced on Wednesday, Oct. 9.  The almost 500-foot-long pier will be able to accommodate large vessels, two floating docks for smaller boats, and an accessible kayak launch. Former Town Supervisor In Hudson Valley Who Was Longtime Designer For IBM Dies A former supervisor of a Hudson Valley town who was a longtime mechanical designer for IBM has died. Louis Foscaldi, a resident of Highland, New York, and Vero Beach, Florida, died on Wednesday, July 20 at age 91, according to his obituary.  He was born in the Bronx and was a graduate of DeWitt Clinton High School. Foscaldi served in the United States Marine Corps from 1952 through 1954, his obituary said.  He went on to study mechanical engineering and work at IBM as a mechanical designer until 1991. Haverstraw Landslide Remembered: 19 Lives Lost HAVERSTRAW, N.Y. -- This month, the village of Haverstraw is commemorating the 112th anniversary of the Haverstraw Landslide. Nineteen people, including four firefighters, lost their lives in the tragedy, which occurred on Jan. 8. Clay that was being excavated for brick use under a 100-foot embankment slipped out, destroying the Rockland Street business section and homes from Liberty to Jefferson Streets.
