Police in New York say a Connecticut man intentionally parked his Chevy Equinox on train tracks in the path of a CSX train and then ran away only to be caught. The Hudson Valley incident occurred in Ulster County around 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 28, south of the Esopus Avenue railroad crossing in the town of Espous. According to Capt. Joseph Sciutto of the Ulster County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a report of a train hitting a car. A Hudson Valley woman suffered minor injuries after she allegedly mixed up backing out and accidentally pulled forward and drove into a CSX train. The incident took place in Ulster County around 2:40 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 14 near the Leggs Mills Road railroad crossing. An investigation is underway after a person was struck and killed by a train in the Hudson Valley. The incident happened at around 3:35 p.m. Friday, March 10 in Ulster County in the area of Winsupply on Morton Blvd in the Town of Ulster. A car hauler was hit by a train in the Hudson Valley after the driver pulled onto one of the tracks, authorities said. The MTA has taken steps to ensure the safety of Metro-North riders. Metro-North President Catherine Rinaldi announced that “Positive Train Control” has been extended to cover nearly 90 percent of the Hudson Line. A truck and a CSX train collided Wednesday morning in West Nyack, backing up traffic. Police have identified a man who was fatally struck by a train in Rockland County on Tuesday night. The Orangetown Police Department received a call at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, from a passerby who saw a man struck by a train on the CSX rail line just south of Bradley Hill Road. Officers arrived at the scene and tracked down the man, who has since been identified as Blauvelt resident Enda Caulfield, 36. West Haverstraw Bridge Will Be Closed During Rail Line Work
A busy Rockland bridge will be closed for several months as contracting crews get set for a lengthy reconstruction project in the area. An alert was issued on Monday to Rockland County residents warning that beginning on Monday, April 2, the Samsondale Avenue Bridge in West Haverstraw over the CSX rail lines in West Haverstraw will be closed to all traffic for the bridge reconstruction project. Officials said that the project is expected to last through Dec. 2, when it is expected to be reopened to traffic. While the bridge is closed, motorists have been advised to seek alternate routes.
