“I am very pleased that we have worked out a settlement which fairly represents the views of both the County and the PBA,” Neuhaus said in a statement. “This is a fair and equitable contract for County Government and for the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office who do terrific work every day to make our County a safer place.”
The wage portion of the settlement is as follows: 1.95 percent in 2018; and 2 percent every year from 2019 through 2022. All members of the bargaining unit will pay 16 percent of the healthcare premium for the duration of this contract not to exceed $1,000 more than the previous year.
Other newly negotiated contract terms include: a designation of Senior Investigator, prior military and police service up to three years now creditable towards Orange County health insurance retirement benefits and the establishment of an educational fund of $10,000.
“As President of the Deputy Sheriff’s PBA I am pleased that we have worked out an agreement that well represents the interests of our membership,” PBA President Mark Lopez said. “I thank County Executive Neuhaus and his negotiations team for their no-nonsense approach towards working through union and labor issues.”
PBA membership voted by an overwhelming majority last week to ratify the terms of the contract. The settlement will be presented to the County Legislature for a ratification vote.
