Louis Centolanza, 73, was driving a 2011 Hyundai south on 9W when he failed to negotiate a turn, left the road and overturned, said Town of Cornwall Police Chief Todd Hazard.
The road was closed for at least an hour as first responders worked to rescue Centolanza from inside a rock formation, where the vehicle landed, partially ejecting Centolanza.
He was extricated by the Highland Engine Company and treated at the scene by the Cornwall Volunteer Ambulance Corps and New Windsor Emergency Medical Services, and flown to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, the chief said.
Cornwall was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, the New York State Park Police and the Village of Cornwall on Hudson Police.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
