A Nissan Versa being operated by 23-year-old Zakiyah Toro of Liberty was traveling south on Sullivan Avenue (Old Route 17) with 8-year-old Alberto Corchado and 5-year-old Zyiarah Corchado, also of Liberty, on Tuesday, Dec. 19 at about 6 p.m. when the vehicle crossed into the northbound lane and was struck head on by a Chevy Cobalt, state police said.
Alberto Corchado was initially transported to Catskill Regional Medical Center and then flown to Westchester Medical Center for internal injuries. In the early morning hours of Wednesday, Dec.20, he was pronounced dead at Westchester Medical Center.
Zakiya Toro and Zyiarah Corchado were both transported to Catskill Regional Medical Center and treated for minor injuries.
The driver and passenger of the Chevy Cobalt were extricated from the vehicle by the Liberty Fire Department and transported to Catskill Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
The accident remains under investigation.
