Former Middletown Police Commissioner Vic Lomascolo Dies

Former Middletown Police Commissioner Chief Victor Joseph Lomascolo died at home on Thursday, May 24. He was 89.

A Middletown resident, Lomascolo was also a volunteer fireman who served the city of Middletown for 65 years and leaves a legacy of recognizing potential and providing encouragement support and direction for others.

"It is with deep regret that we recognize the passing of retired Police Commissioner, Vic Lomascolo. Commissioner Lomascolo passed away on Thursday, May 24th," said the Middletown Police Department.

 He had previously served for four years as a police commissioner and was also a past two-term chief of the Middletown Fire Department. 

"We send our deepest condolences to the Lomascolo family, and thank them for his many years of dedicated service to the Middletown Community. He will be greatly missed," the department said. 

After having served in the U.S. Navy, Lomascolo joined the Wallkill Engine Company as a firefighter in 1953. He progressed through the ranks and became the first elected Italian-American fire chief in Middletown where he served from 1976-1981.

An electrical foreman for more than 35 years, he also served as a member of the Board of Police Commissions for the City of Middletown. 

He was predeceased by his mother and father, Mary and Joseph Lomascolo, his wife Angela (to whom he was married to for 65 years) and his firefighters/paramedic son Joseph.

He is survived by his daughters Donna and Michele, son-in-law, Dr. Bahman S. Motlagh, grandson Max, brother Frank and sister-in-law Vincenza, Godson Joe, niece Marianne and other family members.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Morse Funeral Home Inc., 33 Railroad Ave. Middletown.

In high honor for the “Chief of Chiefs”, a tribute funeral procession will make its way through the city of Middletown en route to the Church of St. Joseph. The funeral service will be held at the Church, 149 Cottage St., Middletown, at 11 a.m. on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to the Chief Victor Lomascolo Foundation c/o the Wallkill Engine Co. #6.
