Leaders on Long Island are honoring a late police detective who died from cancer caused by his work at Ground Zero. In Syosset, the corner of Florence and Edward avenues was officially rededicated as Detective Lieutenant Christopher Cizmarik Way on Thursday, Aug. 29. The posthumous honor comes a year after Cizmarik died from pancreatic cancer that was caused by his time spent working at the World Trade Center site in the days following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The identities have been released for five family members who were killed in a murder-suicide in a residential Long Island community. The incident happened just before noon on Sunday, Aug. 25 at a residence on a cul-de-sac in Syosset. Nassau County Police say officers who responded to the residence on 76 Wyoming Court for a report of shots fired discovered a man outside the home who "sustained an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound." Suspect At Large After Man Shot In Face In Broad Daylight In Syosset
A suspect is on the loose after a shooting in broad daylight on Long Island. It happened around 11:10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, in Syosset near 225 Underhill Blvd. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a 34-year-old man had sustained a gunshot wound to the face, Nassau County Police said. A man has been charged with multiple counts of burglary after he allegedly broke into several Long Island homes, stealing thousands of dollars worth of items.
