If you recognize this early-morning burglar, police want to hear from you. Surveillance cameras were rolling when a masked man broke into a Long Island business and stole money. The incident happened in Hewlett, at Geffen Gourmet on Mill Road, at around 5:15 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14. Nassau County Police said a male suspect got inside by prying open a rear door. Investigators are hoping newly released images will lead to the identification of another victim in the Gilgo Beach serial murders. On Long Island, the Gilgo Beach Task Force distributed facial reconstructions of who they've long referred to as "Asian Doe" during a press conference in Brentwood on Monday morning, Sept. 16. The identity has been released of a man who was found shot dead on Long Island this week. A major airport no-no could cost a Long Island traveler thousands of dollars. The Suffolk County man, of Halesite, was found with a loaded gun in his carry-on bag during a security screening at LaGuardia Airport on Thursday, Sept. 5, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) said. Police on Long Island are investigating the deaths of two young girls — ages 2 and 4 — who are believed to have drowned in a pond behind an apartment complex, authorities said. Tourists Spent Record-Breaking Amount On Long Island Last Year, Report Shows
It appears tourists just can’t get enough of Long Island. Travelers spent a record-breaking $7.5 billion across Nassau and Suffolk counties in 2023, according to data from New York State’s annual Tourism Economics report. That figure far surpassed 2022’s record-breaking spending of $6.6 billion by 12.7 percent. Tourists spent the most, 36 percent, on food and beverages, followed by lodging at 20 percent, the report found. Retail and service stations added another $1.2 billion, or 16 percent of total spend. Thief Walks Off With $20K Watch From Long Island Jewelry Store
Police are asking for help in identifying a thief who walked out of a Long Island jewelry store with a watch worth thousands of dollars. The incident happened in Huntington Station, at the Tourneau store located at Walt Whitman Shops, at around 4:30 p.m. Friday, July 12. Suffolk County Police said a man stole a Cartier watch valued at approximately $20,000.
