Road Closure Alert: Section Of Route 9W To Close In Hudson Valley
A section of the highly traveled Route 9W will be closed in both directions during maintenance activities in the Hudson Valley over the upcoming weekend. The New York State Department of Transportation is advising Rockland County motorists to expect Route 9W to close in both directions between Shadyside Avenue and Hickey Street in the Town of Orangetown on Saturday, June 3, between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. DOT officials said motorists should anticipate delays and follow the posted detour utilizing Route 59, Route 303, and Route 340. First Group Of Mosquitoes In Rockland Test Positive This Season For West Nile Virus
The first pool, or group, of mosquitoes to test positive this year in Rockland County for West Nile Virus, has been confirmed by the New York State Department of Health. The infected mosquitoes were collected from a trap in the Town of Orangetown during the week of Monday, Aug. 3 as part of the County's ongoing mosquito surveillance efforts, Rockland County Executive Ed Day and County Health Commissioner Dr. Patricia Schnabel Ruppert announced Monday afternoon, Aug. 17. Rockland Mosquitoes Test Positive For EEE Virus In Orangetown
The first case of a dangerous mosquito-borne virus -- Eastern Equine Encephalitis -- has been found in a test pool in Rockland County. According to Rockland County Health Department officials, the mosquitoes were collected from a trap in the Town of Orangetown on Sept. 17, as part of the county's ongoing mosquito surveillance efforts. To date, no human cases of EEE have been reported in Rockland. Man Caught With Stolen Debit Cards, Skimmer Device, Forged Checks In Rockland Stop, Police Say
A 25-year-old man is behind bars after police say they discovered stolen debit cards and other fraudulent items in his possession during a Rockland traffic stop. New York State Police stopped a vehicle on I-87 in the Town of Orangetown Wednesday, Jan. 9 around 9 p.m. after observing a traffic violation. The driver, Leonar C. Levy of Springfield Gardens, was found to be in possession of nine stolen debit cards as well as a credit card skimmer device, 2 forged personal checks, 58 blank check certificates and a small amount of marijuana. 24 Rockland Police Officers Receive Stop DWI Awards
Last year, a total of 839 people were arrested in Rockland County for driving while intoxicated. Rockland County Executive Ed Day and Rockland County Sheriff Louis Falco recognized 24 police officers who led the county in arrests to eliminate drunk driving. The officers helped make 44 more arrests last year than the 795 in 2016, according to Day. “These numbers demonstrate that our local law enforcement agencies are working hard to remove irresponsible motorists that choose to drive drunk on our roads and endanger innocent lives," Day said.
