Residents are being warned of predatory phone calls being made by scammers who are attempting to steal from Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. customers. The scammers, working across Rockland County, have been making calls pretending to be O&R employees, who tell the residents their account is suspended for non-payment, said the Suffern Police. Scammers may also create urgency by telling potential victims that an O&R crew is on their way to disconnect service within a short time frame (15 minutes, etc). A 19-year-old man who was a fugitive from justice was nabbed again for stealing two cars in two days from the same town. The unidentified man was arrested in Rockland County on Tuesday, Sept. 13, in Suffern. According to Suffern Police, officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle on Thursday, Sept. 8. Video surveillance captured the suspect and officers were able to identify him shortly after receiving the report. Police are investigating after two people fell ill after opening a suspicious package. The incident took place in Rockland County around 11:20 p.m., Sunday, March 21. Two families were displaced after a fire caused extensive damage to townhouses in Suffern. The blaze broke out in one townhouse at around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10 on Chippewa Court in the Ramapo Cirque community off Montebello and Hemion roads.
