This Orange County School District Ranks First In New York In Spending
New York is home to some of the nation’s finest schools and school districts, but which are spending the most and least to educate students? A newly released report from syracuse.com evaluated the upcoming budget numbers for hundreds of districts in the Empire State to determine how much each is proposing to spend on each student. The report found that the average spending is approximately $19,155, with some districts spending as much as $152,539. Voters In This Area District Rejected School Budget Proposal
The overwhelming majority of voters in the Hudson Valley approved school budgets and bond proposals, though one area district went the other way. Voters in Minisink Valley in Orange County rejected both the proposed $97.46 million budget - which came with a 7.97 percent tax levy increase, exceeding the state’s cap - and a request to purchase 10 new school buses for more than a million dollars. Rockland Voters OK School Budgets, Except In One District
Every school district in Rockland County, except one, passed proposed school budgets for 2018-19 on Tuesday: East Ramapo taxpayers, by a vote of 3,342 to 2,728, rejected a proposed $237.3 million budget, which would have increased spending by 2.7 percent next year. The East Ramapo School District and its Board of Education now have to develop a revised budget proposal for a second vote. If that one is defeated, the district would revert to a contingency budget. Nearly half the districts have spending plans that approach the state-imposed tax cap.
