SUV Fatally Strikes Man Walking On Hudson Valley Road
A 53-year-old man was struck and killed by an SUV while walking on a Hudson Valley roadway. Troopers in Orange County responded to Neversink Drive in Deerpark at about 9:15 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, for a report that a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle, New York State Police said. Investigators found that a 2007 Ford Explorer was eastbound on Neversink Drive near the intersection of Country Club Drive and struck Michael Szczepanski, a resident of Deerpark, police said. New Measure Will Increase Penalties On Oversized Vehicles That Could Cause Bridge Strikes
New measures are being introduced to crack down on oversized and restricted vehicles that could potentially strike an overpass on area roadways. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that his new budget includes new penalties for vehicles that violate height and weight restrictions and could cause bridge strikes. Snow Emergencies Issued In Rockland
A snow emergency regarding parking is in effect in numerous communities including Orangetown, Clarkstown, Ramapo and Haverstraw/Stony Point. Due to the amount of snow accumulation, the police departments are asking that residents remove all vehicles from the roadways for the duration of the emergency which includes all roads that prohibit parking from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. Thursday.
