A fast-acting police officer responding to a crash dragged an unconscious Rockland County driver to safety moments before the man's minivan went up in flames. The minivan had slammed into a utility pole in New Jersey, splitting it at the base, on East Saddle River Road south of Lake Street just after midnight Thursday, Upper Saddle River Police Capt. Motorcyclist Injured In Route 17 Crash
A New York motorcyclist survived an overnight crash on Route 17 in Waldwick, authorities said. The 52-year-old Orange County resident from Middletown victim lost control of the motorcycle on the northbound highway just north of Sheridan Avenue shortly before 2 a.m., Police Chief Mark Messner said. “No other vehicles were involved and at that time and the conditions were clear and dry,” Messner said. A 39-year-old Morris County motorcyclist was killed in a Friday night crash on the Garden State Parkway in Washington Township, authorities said. Preliminary indications were that a southbound Honda sedan driven by a 43-year-old Nanuet man "entered the lane of travel" of a Yamaha motorcycle driven by Simon Kerns of Chatham near Exit 166 just after 6 p.m., NJ State Trooper Charles Marchan said. Firefighters are working to determine the cause of a fire that heavily damaged at least one classroom on the first floor of a Ridgewood elementary school on Wednesday morning. Three people arrested on shoplifting charges at the Fair Lawn CVS on the same day were all wanted by police on warrants. The driver of a Ford SUV was issued a summons by Ridgewood police following a Saturday morning collision that injured the driver of a Cadillac sedan. The driver of the sedan was treated for non life-threatening injuries at the scene -- the intersection of Ackerman Avenue and Bellair Road. The latest great bear hunt left one up a Waldwick tree as police pursuers gathered below. Uniformed officers from Midland Park, Ridgewood and Waldwick chased the furry forager through area yards. Police: Ridgewood Woman Strands Utility Worker Mid-Air In Bucket
A Ridgewood woman upset with a cable company worker hopped into the cab of an Optimum truck and cut the power to a utility bucket, leaving him hanging in mid-air, police said. Elena Gerlihman, 59, then “removed utility property from the truck and walked away,” Capt. William Amoruso said. Responding officers found the worker stranded in the bucket near Gerlihman’s home at East Ridgewood and South Pleasant avenues, Amoruso said. Rockland Gang Member's Accomplice Gets 3 Years In Cabbie Carjacking
The confessed accomplice of a Rockland gang member was sent to federal prison for three years Wednesday for smashing a carjacked cab driver in the head with a beer bottle before others dumped the victim on the side of the New York State Thruway in Orange County. Arlyn Jowany Carrasco Cruz, 28, will have to serve just about all of the sentence because there is no parole in the federal prison system. UPPER SADDLE RIVER, N.J. -- A 58-year-old Upper Saddle River man wasn't breathing and didn't have a pulse when borough police arrived at his home.
