19: New Testing Policy For 140,000 SUNY Students Announced
Before heading home for the holidays, State University of New York students will have to test negative for COVID-19. SUNY Chancellor Jim Malatras announced this week that in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 to the rest of the country when students head home for Thanksgiving, they will first have to take the test at each of SUNY’s 64 colleges and universities. A potential super-spreader situation led to nearly 200 people entering a temporary quarantine after a high school student in the area tested positive for COVID-19. School officials in Westchester County at the Harrison School District announced that the student was last in the building on Friday, Oct. 9. One day after welcoming students back to some school buildings, a school district in Westchester is facing its first COVID-19 crisis. A new positive case of COVID-19 has been reported at a high school in the Hudson Valley. The Monroe-Woodbury School District said that a Monroe-Woodbury High School student tested positive. Travelers from one new state have been added to the COVID-19 joint quarantine list of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The new state added on Tuesday, Sept. 29 is Colorado. Two states -- Arizona and Virginia -- were removed the advisory. Another student and teacher in the Hudson Valley have tested positive for COVID-19, causing concerns for an area school district. Valley Central Schools Superintendent John Xanthis said over the weekend that a student at the Alternative Learning Center tested positive for the virus.
