Henri: Here's How Many Hudson Valley Residents Are Now Without Power
Utility crews in the Hudson Valley are working around the clock to repair thousands of power outages overnight as hundreds remain without electricity following the impact of Tropical Storm Henri. As of late Monday morning, Aug. 23, crews are working to restore power to more than 1,000 Hudson Valley utility customers who were still left in the dark due to the storm. Central Hudson was reporting 35 active outages, which were impacting 810 customers, the bulk of which (670) were in Ulster County. Extinguished Fireworks Cause Heavy Fire To Break Out At Rockland House
An area home suffered heavy damage from a fire started by fireworks thrown into a garbage can. The fire started around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, July 4, at 116 Sutin Place in Chestnut Ridge, said the Ramapo Police Department. When police officers and firefighters arrived on the scene, they found the attic area and side of the home engulfed in flames. "It is believed that the fire was started by extinguished fireworks that were placed in the garbage, which was placed against the side of the residence," said the Ramapo Police. Clarkstown Has Two-Thirds Of Rockland Power Outages
As trees continue to tumble and the snow settles in, the number of people without power in Rockland County continues to grow, including in Clarkstown where more than two-thirds of residents have no electricity. According to Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehman, as of 1 p.m. Thursday, 9,000 people are without power in Clarkstown and 14,400 in Rockland County. Help On The Way: New York National Guard Deploying To Rockland
With hundreds of downed trees causing problems with snow removal and power restoration, County Executive Ed Day announced Thursday that the New York National Guard is in the process of deploying to the county to assist. The primary mission of the Guard will be to assist with the removal of downed trees.
