Arvanites grew up in Pearl River, and attended Pearl River High School, where he wrestled and played football, before graduating in 1996.

After four years in the Air Force, he attended St. Thomas Aquinas. He's been a teacher at South for the last five years, and Director of Athletics for the last two.
