Lohud reported on Friday that after nearly two decades, Nanuet High School Principal Vincent Carella is being permanently reassigned following the claims from a 50-year-old teacher in the district, who is seeking $1 million in a notice of claim against the district.
The report states that the teacher claims Carella requested sexual favors and attempted to have sex on school grounds. He reportedly sought sex in exchange for preferential treatment that included new furniture and a favorable schedule.
Carella allegedly sent the teacher inappropriate emails, physically touched and kissed her, according to lohud.com. The report says that in 2004 the teacher went to a hotel with Carella, who raped her.
According to the report, the teacher was appointed as a department head four years ago at Carella’s behest, but abruptly had the title taken away when she requested that the harassment stop.
Carella is now the coordinator of high school administrative services, while Michael Mahoney, the former Director of Guidance, fills in as interim principal at the high school.
“It should be noted that the allegations in the notice of claim are only allegations at this point," Schools Superintendent Mark McNeill said in an email. "The district conducted a full investigation which revealed that not all of the allegations are true. In fact, the district will dispute many of the allegations at the appropriate time."
