Hofstein represents District 5, which includes parts of New City, Pomona and Ramapo. After his election, he appointed Legislator Douglas J. Jobson of Stony Point as deputy minority leader.

Hofstein identified several goals for 2016, focusing on improving communication and fiscal issues.

“To be successful we must work as a team, be open to new ideas and always remember: We work for the people who elected us,” Hofstein said.

He said he wants to boost cooperation and communication between Republicans and Democrats on the 17-member Legislature, in part by holding ongoing meetings with legislative leaders.

Hofstein added he hopes to improve communication between legislative leaders and County Executive Ed Day and his staff.

On the fiscal front, Hofstein wants to ensure county operations are working more efficiently, including making sure spending is controlled. He said he wants to look into establishing a reporting system that is unified within county government.

He also plans to continue to work with the Rockland Economic Development Council to bring new industries into Rockland County to grow the local economy, he said.

Hofstein has served on the Legislature since 2014 and was elected to his first full four-year term in November.

He was born and raised in the Bronx and has an accounting practice in Manhattan. He and his wife, Rosemarie, have lived in Rockland since 1986 and are parents of Alexandria and Daniel.

Jobson represents the residents of District 1, covering Stony Point, Sloatsburg and the Palisades Interstate Park Region in Ramapo.

“I am honored to be serving the people of my district and all of Rockland County,” Jobson said. “I will continue to look out for the bottom line for taxpayers and to make sure the people’s needs are addressed.”

Jobson grew up in Stony Point and graduated from North Rockland High School and Cabrini College. He works in the gas construction division of Orange and Rockland Utilities Inc. He has served on the Legislature since 1998.
