Clarkstown Rolls Out Restricted Vehicle Use

CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. -- In an effort to cut costs, Supervisor George Hoehmann has rolled out new policies pertaining to vehicles the towns own and overnight travel, according to lohud.com.

The measure is aimed at trimming the $1.7 million deficit in the following annual budget, said the report, and it was approved unanimously at Tuesday night's Town Board meeting.

The costs associated with "travel, training and conferences" will have to be approved by the Town Board according to the rules put in place in the present month. More than $3 million has been spent over the last four years on overnight travel and other expenses ,lohud.com reported.

Town Comptroller Tom Morr suggested the measure, which is similar to a policy in Orangetown, reported lohud.com.

Under the new rules just the fire safety inspector and the assistant fire safety inspector would have use for 24 hours of their vehicles, and four supervisors of highway maintenance would in the winter, said lohud.com.

Currently there are 16 staff members who can use their vehicles for 24 hours, according to the report.
