Woman Tries To Cash Bad Check At Chase Bank In Valley Cottage, Police Say

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Bronx woman is behind bars after being collared by the Clarkstown Police for passing a bad check at the Chase Bank in Valley Cottage on Monday, according to Clarkstown Police.

Maria Ruiz, 51, was charged with attempting to cash a fraudulent check at the Chase Bank in Spring Cottage.

Maria Ruiz, 51, was caught when Clarkstown Police responded to the bank at 132 Rt. 303, after receiving a call regarding a fraudulent check, said Officer Peter Walker.

 Once on the scene, officers interviewed the bank manager who informed them Ruiz had attempted to cash a check for an unknown amount of money using a fake Connecticut driver's license, said Walker.

Ruiz, who was still in the parking lot, was arrested and transported to police headquarters for processing. She was charged with felony identity theft, felony possession of forged instrument, and felony attempted grand larceny, Walker said.

She is being held at the Rockland County Jail on $15,000 bail. She is due to appear in court on Jan. 11.
