Clarkstown Police responded to a home on Lowell Drive in New City on Thursday, Nov. 23, for a report of an attempted robbery and shots fired, said Officer Peter Walker.
Responding officers were met by the occupants of the home who said the homeowner and three friends were on the back deck smoking cigarettes when two unknown males came onto the property, approached them and began threatening them for no reason, Walker said.
The victims told officers that one man had a knife in his hand and the second had a revolver. The men, identified as Hoang Vu, 20, and an unidentified 16-year-old, then ran on foot towards the front of the home, Walker said.
At that time, the victims recall hearing multiple gunshots. The victims said that the two men fled the scene but it was unknown if they fled on foot or in a vehicle. A canvass of the neighborhood by multiple police units came up empty-handed.
During the investigation by detectives, a total of four gunshots were found to have struck the home. No injuries occurred during the incident, Walker said.
The investigation led police to the identification and apprehension of Vu and the teen at their residences on Friday, Nov. 25 without incident, Walker said.
Vu was charged with second-degree attempted murder, felony attempted assault, reckless endangerment, criminal sale of a firearm to a minor, felony criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal trespass, criminal solicitation, and criminal facilitation.
The 16-year-old was charged with second-degree attempted murder, attempted assault, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal trespass.
Both are being held at the Rockland County Jail on $250,000 bail.
As detective continued to investigate the incident, a third suspect was identified to have a connection to both Vu and the 16-year-old male, Walker said.
Erik Jackson, 21, of Nanuet, was taken into custody at his home and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, criminal possession of a narcotic drug, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of marijuana, and criminal possession of stolen property.
He is also being held at the Rockland County Jail on $100,000 bail.
The Clarkstown Detective Bureau is continuing to investigate this incident.
