The incident stemmed from a motor vehicle stop for a traffic violation in New Hempstead on Friday evening at about 7 p.m., police report.
Based upon the officers’ observations, the stop turned into a drug investigation, and the driver of the vehicle became uncooperative, according to officials.
During the incident, the motorist physically pushed an officer to prevent him from doing his job, police report.
Police responded with use-of-force options that ensured compliance from the suspect without anyone being injured, according to officials.
The driver was arrested for obstructing governmental administration; he was also charged with the vehicle and traffic violation, as well as possessing marijuana, police report.
Ramapo police responded to 11 motor vehicle accidents on Friday: four in Monsey, two in Hillcrest, and one each in Chestnut Ridge, New City, Airmont, Sloatsburg and Viola.
Three of the accidents involved injuries, officials report.
Ramapo police handled 127 calls Friday, including 16 alarm activations, nine medical emergencies and two fires.
A total of four arrests were made, according to officials.
Charges included obstructing governmental administration, unlawful possession of marijuana, traffic offenses and a warrant.
