Rockland, Surrounding Counties Deploy Terrorism Safety Details

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. – Sixty law enforcement personnel from 20 agencies throughout Rockland, Orange and Sullivan counties deployed in Counterterrorism Action Teams on Thursday to shopping areas and train stations throughout the three-county region for a proactive detail.

The goals of the detail included educating the public about the importance of being aware of their surroundings and reporting suspicious activity to law enforcement.

Local law enforcement officers assigned to a CTAT engaged the public at the Palisades Center and at trains stations at Spring Valley, Suffern, Pearl River, Nanuet and Sloatsburg.

The officers discussed terrorist-related indicators with shoppers and distributed “See Something Say Something” fliers. Specialized law enforcement officers also conducted commercial vehicle checks.

The New York State Police and the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services also recently announced the availability of the “See Something, Send Something” mobile phone app, which allows users to instantly report suspicious activity to law enforcement.
