Chad Weinstein, 33, was charged after Clarkstown detectives investigated the report of the theft from a truck that was parked in a parking lot on Squadron Boulevard in New City while the victim was working on a machine on June 22, Officer Peter Walker said.
Detectives were able to obtain video evidence of the crime and identify Weinstein. The stolen tools were valued at $5,000.
Weinstein turned himself into detectives investigating the case and was charged with felony grand larceny. He was released on his own recognizance and is due to appear in court on Monday, Aug. 7.
