Lentini told police that he stabbed Michael Wimbert, 66, on Dec. 1 when the retired teacher made sexual advances after he rented a room from him on Craigslist, said lohud.com.
Clarkstown police said the former homeless man had been living at 68 Demarest Ave. in West Nyack for several days when the attack took place, said lohud.com.
Wimbert had more than two dozen stab wounds to his neck and throat, according to Prosecutor Dominic Crispino, added lohud.com.
Lentini's attorneys, Kenneth Murphy and Walter "Buddy" Sakowski, said the young man was asleep when Wimbert tried to molest him, said lohud.com.
A neighbor called police after they heard Lentini yell for someone to call 911 while running from the residence, added lohud.com.
The trial is being held at the Rockland Courthouse in New City.
