Haverstraw Woman Stole $1.5K Worth Of Handbags At Lord & Taylor, Police Say

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. --  A Haverstraw woman is behind bars Tuesday for stealing five designer handbags from the Lord & Taylor store at the Palisades Mall on Monday, police said.

Ruth Ester Mendez, 29, was charged with burglary, grand larceny and possession of stolen property after Clarkstown Police responded to the store after a loss prevention officers observed her taking the five Michael Kors bags valued at $1,500, said Officer Peter Walker.

Mendez had previously signed a store trespass warning for a previous shoplifting incident and was not allowed back in the store for two years, Walker said.

She was arraigned in Clarkstown Justice Court. Bail was set at $15,000. Mendez is being held at the Rockland County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court on March, 20.
