Earlier report:
Two people were killed and another suffered a serious injury in a two-car accident that shut down Route 304 in New City Sunday evening.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Route 304 and Goebel Road at around 5:15 p.m.
Responding personnel located a Toyota Camry and a Lincoln MKV in the roadway, both with extensive damage, Clarkstown Police said.
The Camry was occupied by a man who appeared to be the driver, and a woman in the passenger seat.
Responding New City Fire Department personnel utilized the "Jaws of Life" to gain access to the occupants.
The male driver was pronounced dead on the scene, police said. The female passenger was extricated from the vehicle and removed to a waiting ambulance. Shortly thereafter, she was pronounced dead.
The male driver of the Lincoln suffered a laceration to the head and was removed to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment. He was unable to immediately provide any account of event, police said.
The identities of the two people who died have not yet been released.
