There will be a celebration of Jahnes’ life beginning at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 28 at the First Reformed Church of Nyack on South Broadway in Nyack, followed by a Firematic Service beginning at 6 p.m.
Jahnes went into cardiac arrest during a noxious odor call at Chase Bank on North Broadway at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Monday. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He joined the Nyack Volunteer Fire Department in November 2001 and served as company captain from 2008 to 2011.
"Today, as well as the days, weeks, and months ahead please continue to remember Firefighter David Jahnes family, friends, and the Nyack Fire Department community in your thoughts and prayers," the department wrote on Facebook. "Let us always remember and honor the memory of this courageous firefighter."
