The Rockland County lawmaker said that current law on “substantive equivalence” holds school superintendents responsible for making sure that children in private schools and those in public schools get similar educations, the report said.

However, it does not require any tests to prove that they are the lohud.com said. The bill would place responsibility for enforcing the law on the commissioner of the State Education Department, the report said.

According to lohud.com, families in Zebrowski’s district, who want secular studies improved in local Hasidic yeshivas, recently sued the state and the East Ramapo school district.
