Rockland Cyclists Honor Riders Who Were Injured Or Killed

CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. -- A group of cyclists are beginning a ride Wednesday evening outside the courthouse in downtown New City as part of the Rockland Bicycle Club's national Ride of Silence observance in remembrance of riders injured or killed cycling on public roadways, according to lohud.com.

Cyclists in Rockland will participate in the national Ride of Silence.

The ride takes place annually on the third Wednesday of may and happens in single file and silence, according to lohud.com.

This year in Rockland the ride comes following the death of three bicyclists in the past year.

Alfred Zaldivar, 47, of New City died after he was struck on Old Route 304 and Cypress Street on May 9, 2015. Ed Brophy, 77, of Congers died after his bicycle was struck Aug.16, 2015, by a Tappan ZEExpress bus. William “Matt” George died when he was struck standing near the guardrail on Route 202 in Ramapo the night of Dec. 21, according to lohud.com.
