Police said Dylan Lentini faces a second-degree murder charge after finding Wimbert dead from multiple stab wounds in his apartment on Demarest Ave. early Tuesday, Dec. 1.
A neighbor who was smoking on his porch around 1:45 a.m. saw a young man matching Lentini's description running from the Wimbert's apartment, screaming for help, police said.
Lentini was found and arrested about 100 yards from the building, Police Chief Michael Sullivan said.
Wimbert had a reputation for helping people, according to his brother, Henry Wimbert of Bardonia, who called him a "very kind person," reported lohud.com.
Michael Wimbert reportedly met Lentini through a Craigslist ad for a roommate, according to lohud.
Lentini , who pleaded not guilty on Dec. 1, told police he lived at the Covenant House homeless shelter in Manhattan, lohud.com said.
