The report references an unnamed source who claims that Paul Crowley, captain of Specialist, the vessel that sank, was at the helm of the tugboat Realist while its captain, James Morrison, was preoccupied with a woman he had brought on board.

Paul Amon, one of the three crew members killed, was at the helm of the Specialist when it struck a construction barge, lohud.com reported.

The two tugboats, along with a third, were escorting a barge with a large crane, lohud.com reported.

Police did not confirm that account, but said they were looking into a witness’s claim that someone had been aboard the Realist who wasn't mentioned in the accident report, lohud.com said.

Morrison refused to say if he had brought a woman on board the boat, but he did say that Crowley was on the Realist conducting a "watch," the lohud.com article said.

Also killed in the accident were: Harry Hernandez, 56, of Staten Island; and Timothy Conklin, 29, of Westbury on Long Island. Amon, 63, was from Bayville, N.J.
