The Clarkstown Town Board is holding the public hearing to consider designating the Cropsey House and Barn (and the property surrounding) at 230 South Little Tor Road in New City as "historic structures" under the Town Code.
A recommendation supporting such a designation was already passed by the Clarkstown Historical Review Board.
The barn at Cropsey Farm, also known as the Rippon Barn has been noted by both barn historian Greg Huber and Claire Tholl, an expert in historic structures, as a three-bay Dutch barn, according to the Historical Society of Rockland County.
"The large barn to the rear offered an exciting surprise. The original east part of this structure is an authentic early American Dutch barn built with huge pegged beams large barn doors in center flanked by two small entrance doors on either side. These are rare in both Bergen and Rockland," said Tholl upon visiting the barn, says a press release.
