Data Recovered From Suspended Clarkstown Chief Sullivan's Phone

NEW CITY, N.Y. – A forensic expert has performed what he said Monday is a “100 percent restoration” on the former cell phone of suspended Clarkstown Police Chief Michael Sullivan, according to lohud.com.

As a result, authorities now have access to thousands of messages and other data downloaded to the town-issued cell phone, according to lohud.com.

The expert, John Ahearne, of California, testified Monday via Skype, according to lohud.com, which reported that the recovery of the data provided access to 2,000 messages and calendar items.

Sullivan faces a host of internal charges, some of which accuse him of knowingly resetting his cell phone despite the fact that he knew it may have held information pertinent to an ongoing investigation into his conduct.

In addition to the forensic expert Monday, Clarkstown Police Capt. Robert Mahon testified during Sullivan's disciplinary hearing that there is no specific policy requiring officers to scrub their town-owned cell phones, according to lohud.com.
